John Glover was born in England in 1767.  He was a very successful British artist when he migrated to Australia in 1831.  He arrived in Launceston on his 64th birthday accompanied by his wife, six years his senior, and his eldest son.  Three younger sons had already settled in Tasmania. Glover brought with him, about 104 "well filled sketchbooks" and seven thousand pounds.

My first exhibition of Early Australian Paintings held in March 1985 included two works by Glover.  His watercolours and drawings have been included in my early exhibitions ever since.  This exhibition is a window to his early life.
